Colonial Revival Addition, Canton, Connecticut

This house was built around 1970 as a simple Colonial Revival. Over the years, the owners have lovingly improved its finishes, adding panelling and floors. The kitchen was too small, however, and there was no good way for the family to enter the house. I helped them add an entry porch with sunny mudroom, as well as an all-new kitchen that now extends to the back yard with a cozy eating area. We also added a back porch and expanded the dining room.

Every inch of this kitchen was carefully crafted for function and beauty. The hearth of the home is the cooking area. The owners found an all-white Aga in England, and I designed hearth-like cabinetry to surround it. We designed butternut cabinetry to contrast with the painted pieces; each has a special molding profile and hardware.
