Old Pony Club, Montpelier, Vermont
This wonderful Greek Revival cape was built on the old stagecoach road north of Montpelier around 1830. It was added onto at least twice, making a twisted route of dark rooms with fake beams and '70s stucco. The owners asked for new family spaces -- kitchen, dining, and family rooms, along with a mudroom -- that felt light and airy. I made a special effort to connect the spaces with the outdoors. We strengthened the large span family room with new beams.
The cabinetry was designed by me and built locally, by Gray Hill Woodworking. One special note is the see-through cabinetry between kitchen and pantry that lets light through and makes both rooms larger.
